how do I sign up?

1

You can sign up using the ‘Register’ button on the homepage, or flick us an email at funkisphere@gmail.com. If you need a hand setting up your child's registration, just rock up to class and we'll do it on the spot using a mobile phone. Easy as.

what to wear/bring?

2

Dancers need to wear long pants as we slide and roll around on the floor a lot. Wearing shorts or a skirt to dance massively decreases the diversity of movement we can play around with so please please please always bring long pants! Other than that you can pretty much wear what you like! One of my tweens frequently shows up in a full body monkey suit and that works out just great.

What is dance movement therapy?

3

can we try it out and see how we feel?

You know art therapy right…it’s that…but it’s dance. Dance Movement Therapy is centred on the practice of embodying thoughts and feelings. We talk and move and create sessions based on a strong therapeutic relationship and a person centred model of therapy. This means that while there might be over arching goals or concepts we’re working towards, we always address the thoughts and feelings that are presenting right now.

Milo works with neurodiverse rangatahi using a strengths based lens, first discovering what makes them tick and light up and then guiding and supporting clients to fully express themselves, build their mana, regulate their nervous system and offering tools to help them move with ease through the world with a greater sense of agency and understanding.

can i join in my childs classes or stay and watch?

4

Absolutely you can! Many parents do! However ideally you are working towards leaving your child in the space so they can bond with the other dancers and call on Milo for extra needs. These classes are also about building confidence which ultimately means dancers growing their sense of adventure and self reliance in a safe container…ie…they can and will thrive…even when Mum or Dad aren’t there.

financials-cost-payment-support?

Classes are between $12 and $18 depending on the length of class. We invoice via email at the end of each term as we generally end up missing a couple of weeks due to Milo catching bugs off the kids. Milo is a freelance artist and mother of two…she gets it. Fees are hard and money life can be a rollercoaster. If you need help with fees/more time to pay/ or a different way to pay please just get in touch and let us know. We’re about the mahi not the money.

Totally recommend this. You might find that you’re looking for something else and we won’t be offended if that’s the case.

Get in touch with Milo via email or text OR if you see the session time you’re keen on and just want to drop in…go for it. If you come along to one session and decide it’s not for you…all g! If you decide you’d like to commit then come back to this website and register to make sure you get all the relevant info.

is carpooling a thing?

YES. We have a WhatsApp group for each class. If you want to ride share you can ask for help on there or make friends at drop off and hook it up. Carpooling is encouraged where possible. It helps the kids grow stronger bonds with each other and feeds into that bravery we’re always trying to build. It takes a village people!!!
