DANCE IS FOR

EVERY

BODY

THROW SHAPES dance school isn't about striving for perfection or mastering one particular style. We celebrate all movement, creativity, connection, wonder and ridiculousness. We’re here to provide a funky laboratory of discovery for the magical weirdo that lies within, supporting a strong sense of mana, curiosity, embodiment, bravery and belonging.

Born and raised in Hokitika then trained in the big wide world, Milo is your classic arty millennial hyphenate. She is a professional performer, choreographer digital media designer/creative maker as well as mother of two gorgeous beasts. Milo splits her time between teaching dance, working freelance as a digital media designer and developing personal performing arts projects, from creating music videos for local musicians to devising weird and wonderful theatre works.

Trained in ballet, jazz, hip hop, character, musical/physical theatre, yoga and dance movement therapy. Milo applies this swiss-army knife of skills in her classes at Pohara Hall every week during term time. These classes are for everyone aged 5 to 100, whether you're a complete beginner or have danced for years, there's something for you.

The kaupapa is simple: everyone can dance and everybody should. If you or someone you know needs to throw some sweet shapes. Nau mai haere mai!

A big part of Milo's mahi is providing neuro-affirming opportunities for tamariki here in Mohua. Alongside these open dance classes, Milo also offers one-to-one and small group Dance Movement Therapy sessions for ākonga looking to strengthen their neuro-spicy superpowers, calm the nervous system and gather tools to help them and their whānau thrive in the world. If that’s the mahi you’re looking for, flick us an email and book in a chat.
